I can’t stop thinking about that moment in time where those layers upon layers of flakey buttery goodness, piled high on top of each other, grazed my tongue as I every so gently chomped through the golden layers, flaking, then falling to the floor. Ahhh, still drooling… I’ve come to the conclusion, through consumption of countless croissants that it is without a doubt impossible to eat a perfect croissant without making a mess! The layers are totally meant to flake!

I can’t get enough of the sound that first bite into a fresh croissant makes; it is literal music to my ears. The feeling on your tongue when those rich, buttery, flakey layers basically melt in your month is absolutely addicting. All you want to do is take another bite, then another, and then before you know it, it’s gone in the blink of an eye. But how could something so perfect, be replicated time and time again? LUNE CROISSANTERIE

Lune Croissanterie defines its purpose as croissants. They only source the freshest ingredients and operate on their core philosophy of “attention to detail at every single stage in the croissant making process.” This philosophy is apparent the minute you walk into 119 Rose St, Fitzroy. Met with high ceilings and industrial open space, sits large glass panes encompassing large steel tables, heavy mixers, and 5-6 bakers in white aprons diligently making croissants. Displayed on the ordering counter is every pastry currently available – Croissant, Kouigan Amann, Danish, Cruffin, and Twice Baked pastries.

I literally wanted to order one of everything! Considering it’s half way across the world, I unfortunately don’t think I’ll be back anytime soon. But don’t worry, I did my best to try as many things as one girl could possibly consume in one trip! My pants may be tight, but my stomach sure isn’t! #totallyworthit

Pain au Chocolat: I love the look of a cut in half croissant. Beyond the taste, I think this is a great way to tell the quality of a croissant. Looking at the paper-thin layers webbed together and how well the layers puffed up are something I could stare at all-day any day. Cutting a Pain au Chocolat in half is even better, the organic dark chocolate batons always get me extra excited! The bitter dark chocolate is the perfect compliment to the rich buttery flavor.

Lemon Curd Cruffin: This had to the best way to break my cruffin virginity. How I’ve managed to avoid this trendsetter this long is beyond me. Shaped like a muffin, flakey like a croissant, it literally blends the best of both worlds. In addition, it’s stuffed in the middle like a cupcake! The look, the flake, and the filling… life does not get any better. The lemon curd stuffed in the middle is elegantly smooth, tart, and in perfect ratio to those buttery layers. If all cruffins taste this good, then I have definitely been missing out!

Coconut Pandan: Let’s just take a moment and admire those toasted coconut shavings on top…it is ALMOST too pretty to eat! There’s something about a bite full of varying textures that gets me more excited than I care to admit. The flakey but airy layers, the filling of coconut pandan goodness, topped with the crunchy toasted coconut shavings, are how I wish I started every day off! Even with the filling, it wasn’t coconut overload, but instead perfectly balanced in every bite, enhancing those sweet buttery layers.

Croissant: I can’t lie. Our first order did not include the traditional French croissant. There were just so many other fun flavors; I just couldn’t justify spending precious stomach space on the run of the mill standard croissant. But after putting down the last three pastries and thoroughly being in a state of “OMG,” I just had to go for it! After all, how could I truly determine if these were the best croissants I’ve ever had if I didn’t order a traditional French croissant?

I’m sure it comes as no surprise by now that these croissants were by far the BEST I’ve ever had. How they stack up to those in France, the home of croissants, I have no idea... #bucklist

But what I will say, is the attention to detail that is put into each croissant is evident in every single bite. Regardless of the flavor, the airy pockets are absolutely beautiful, the flakes are feather light, and the buttery richness is indescribably delicious. The X factor that takes these pasties to a level of their own is how open they are in providing the opportunity to watch the creative process live. It truly makes the satisfaction of consumption that much sweeter. #worththetrip #hungrygirlwanders
