In honor of yesterday’s National Donut Day, I’d like to ask the burning question we’re all wondering at this exact minute: Where can I find the best donut EVER?!?
Regardless of the location, season, or time, I am constantly on the prowl for the most scrumptious donut in existence. I mean, what’s not to love about donuts? They are the perfect sweet fix when you’re on the go. You can hold them in one hand as you stroll the streets of a new town, and they always have just enough sugar to pick you up to get through the rest of your day. Donuts make a great breakfast treat alongside your morning coffee, an afternoon sugar rush snack, or the sweetest ending to any five star dining experience. Topped with sprinkles, stuffed with ice cream, filled with jam, drenched in chocolate, glazed with cream cheese icing, shaped like a unicorn, or covered in nacho Doritos – you name it, there is probably a donut for it!
While in Las Vegas, we stopped at the famous Donut Bar. Donut Bar is actually a San Diego original from 2013, and a recent Las Vegas addition. I first heard of Donut Bar from one of many articles covering the best donuts across America – USA Today, Thrillist, and MSN. Yelping my way through Las Vegas, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Donut Bar had a location!
We stopped by closer to 11am on a Sunday – I would definitely recommend going early, especially on a weekend. There was hardly anything left! Always a great sign for the business, but for sure I was kicking myself that we should have gone earlier. It just means, we will return!
We ordered the Chocolate Euphoria and the Blood Orange - $3 a piece! #stealofadeal

Chocolate Euphoria: Silky smooth chocolate glaze with chocolate sprinkles and twirls topped the fluffy and perfectly fried donut. The inside was light, airy, and not too sweet. The dough bounced right back into place after a good size bite – a quality all delicious donuts share. The chocolate was rich and dark but not at all bitter. The chocolate twirls added a nice textural bite before they melt in your mouth. Euphoric indeed.
Blood Orange: I’m not typically one to order orange flavor anything, but due to our tardiness, we couldn’t be the pickiest. This time, being late paid off! I never would have tried a blood orange donut – but I am so glad I did. It had a soft citrus aroma with just the slightest sniff; similar to that of a freshly picked orange. The orange flavor was prominent but pleasant. The glaze was sweet, but paired with the tart orange flavor, perfectly tamed the donutto keep you going back for more.
The menu is filled with the traditional and the creative. From a Strawberry Split, to Cake Batter, to Chocolate Bacon, to Big Poppa Tart – I want to try them all!
Be sure to check out Donut Bar next time you're in Las Vegas or San Diego! They just might have your favorite donut, and if not, maybe something better that will catch you by surprise!
